Brain Injury at Fitness Centers

Gyms and fitness centers are expected to improve health outcomes for members who exercise regularly. But did you know that thousands of Americans suffer serious injuries while working out in fitness centers throughout the U.S.?

Most exercise equipment is made of heavy metal and cables that can break and cause a variety of injuries such as:

  • Brain injury
  • Fractures
  • Torn muscles

Just recently, a man in Texas sued a popular fitness chain for severe head injury after an exercise machine cable broke and caused around 180 pounds of metal weight to slam against his head. The plaintiff maintains that the fitness center failed to maintain, inspect and repair its fitness equipment, causing his injuries.

He is seeking damages for all his injuries.

Other Cases against Fitness Chain

This is not the first lawsuit filed against this particular fitness center. Another member of the same fitness chain had also sued the center for severe brain injury caused by a faulty treadmill. In the earlier lawsuit, the plaintiff was a 66 year old woman who alleged that she fell off a treadmill and hit her head on an adjacent machine after becoming dizzy. As a result, she maintains that she is no longer able to perform her usual daily activities such as cooking and driving and that she now suffers from recurring headaches.
